Plateau United got back to winning ways on Monday at the Jos Stadium, narrowly beating Bendel Insurance thanks to a second-half strike from Saka Gafar. The goal made the difference in a tight game and kept the Peace Boys’ strong home record alive.

This win lifts Plateau United up the table as they prepare for their next challenge away to Ikorodu City.

First Half: Cautious Start

The opening 45 minutes saw both sides feeling each other out. Chances were few, with Plateau United trying to control the game through quick passes and high pressing. Amah John made sharp saves from Bendel’s set pieces, while crosses from Vincent Temitope and Mafeng Pam just missed their targets.

The closest Plateau United came to scoring before halftime was a long throw from Tarabina Biweribo met by Wisdom Ndon, forcing the Bendel keeper into a punch. Despite a determined effort, the half ended 0-0.

Second Half: Saka Breaks the Deadlock

The team came out after the break with more urgency, and just ten minutes in, Saka Gafar found the net. Chinemerem Ugwueze showed great footwork near the byline, keeping the attack alive. Mafeng Pam slid the ball to Saka, who calmly turned inside the box and finished neatly.

The stadium erupted, and from that moment, it was all about keeping the lead and staying focused.

Holding On

Bendel Insurance tried to push for an equaliser, but Plateau United’s defence stayed solid. Amah John was alert throughout, while Wisdom Ndon, Tarabina Biweribo, Harrison Ebah, and Jonathan Davou were reliable at the back.

There were some tense moments late in the game, including injuries to Chinemerem Ugwueze, Saka Gafar, and Kazeem Adeyanju, who were all stretchered off. Substitutes Sulaimon Mojereola, Samuel Kalu, and Victor Dawa added energy to help see the game out.

After five minutes of added time, the whistle confirmed a hard-earned 1-0 win for Plateau United.
