Plateau United were left frustrated on Sunday in Jos after a tight NPFL encounter ended in a 1–0 defeat to Abia Warriors. The Peace Boys controlled long spells of the game and pushed hard until the final whistle, but a single second-half goal proved enough for the visitors.
The match began at a steady tempo, with Plateau United showing early intent. Vincent Temitope and Kazeem Adeyanju combined well in midfield, while Nenrot Silas and Saka Gafar looked to stretch Abia Warriors down the flanks.
Tarabina Biweribo’s long throws caused moments of concern in the visitors’ box, but clear chances were limited.
Plateau United came closest before the break when Nenrot found space to shoot from range, only for his effort to be blocked. A brief penalty appeal was waved away after Gideon went down under pressure, and despite finishing the half on top, the score remained goalless at the interval.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Plateau United pushing forward and Abia Warriors sitting compact. Coach Shola Adegun introduced fresh legs in search of a breakthrough, but it was the visitors who struck in the 67th minute, capitalising on a quick transition to take the lead.
The goal forced Plateau United into a more direct approach. Substitutions raised the tempo, and the Peace Boys began to commit numbers forward. Mubarak Usman delivered dangerous balls into the box, while Nenrot Silas and Yusuf Abdullahi both went close as Abia Warriors were pinned back for long periods.
Late pressure saw Plateau United force corners and free kicks, but the final finish just wouldn’t come.
Abia Warriors held firm through six minutes of added time to see out the result.
At full time, it ended 1–0 in favour of the visitors.
Plateau United will feel hard done by after creating sustained pressure, especially in the closing stages, but the focus now shifts to a quick response as they prepare for their next NPFL fixture after the mid-season break.
