NPFL Week 2: Plateau United 1-2 Katsina United

Plateau United returned to action in Jos but suffered a narrow 1-2 defeat to Katsina United in a match that had plenty of action and chances at both ends.

Katsina opened the scoring early in the 12th minute through Sadiq Abubakar, putting Plateau United on the back foot. The Peace Boys tried to respond immediately, with Saka Gafar, Gideon Monday, and Dawa Victor linking up well in the early exchanges, but the visitors’ defence held firm. Despite repeated attacks and long throws from Mubarak Usman, the Peace boys couldn’t find an equalizer before Katsina doubled their lead in the 60th minute, with Uche Collins finishing from a corner.

Oluwasola Adegun, made tactical changes introducing Albert Hilary, Gift Osadebe, and Damala Promise to freshen up the attack. Their persistence paid off in the 69th minute when Mubarak’s long throw found Gideon Monday, who rose to head home and give the home fans something to cheer about.

The remainder of the match saw Plateau United pushing for an equalizer, with Harrison Ebah and Albert Hilary going close, but Katsina’s defence and the woodwork kept them at bay. After 12 minutes of added time, the referee blew the final whistle, sealing a 2-1 win for Katsina United.
